Synthetic Wound Care Startup Raises $3M

Synthetic

Synthetic wound care developer Bioactivx has raised $3 million in pre-Series A financing to accelerate commercialization of its Bioactiv Matrix technology. The Singapore deep-tech startup’s latest round was co-led by Cocoon Capital and Martin Krupp, managing director of Swiss family office ContInvest, with participation from new and existing investors. The financing brings Bioactivx’s total capital raised to approximately $4.9 million.

Bioactivx plans to use the funding to expand manufacturing in Singapore, strengthen its commercial and regulatory teams, conduct post-market clinical studies and develop additional products for chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers and inflammatory skin conditions.

Synthetic Wound Care Startup Raises $3M

Bioactivx was founded in 2023 as a spin-off from Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research, or A*STAR, and the SingHealth healthcare group. Its work focuses on regenerative biomaterials designed to support tissue repair and wound healing.

The new financing follows a $1.43 million seed round completed in November 2025 and led by Cocoon Capital. Bioactivx says the additional capital will help move its lead product closer to commercialization while building the infrastructure required for broader market entry.

Synthetic Wound Care Targets Faster Healing

Bioactiv Matrix is a fully synthetic skin substitute intended to support tissue regeneration and reduce inflammation.

The product is designed for wound-care applications where damaged tissue requires an environment that can support repair. Bioactivx is initially targeting acute wounds while building a broader pipeline that could eventually address chronic wounds and other tissue-repair needs.

Unlike some conventional wound-care products that rely on animal-derived collagen or other biological materials, Bioactiv Matrix uses a synthetic approach.

That distinction could provide advantages in manufacturing consistency, supply availability and acceptance among patients or healthcare systems seeking animal-free alternatives.

Synthetic Technology Could Simplify Distribution

Bioactivx says Bioactiv Matrix does not require cold-chain storage or sterile operating-room conditions for use. These characteristics could broaden the environments in which the technology can be deployed.

Advanced wound products can create logistical challenges when they depend on refrigerated transportation, specialized storage or highly controlled clinical environments.

A product that is easier to store and handle could potentially be used across more settings, including smaller healthcare facilities, emergency response environments, military medicine and resource-limited regions.

Synthetic Wound Care Could Improve Accessibility

The ability to deploy wound-care technology outside major hospitals could become commercially significant across Southeast Asia and other markets where healthcare infrastructure varies considerably.

However, broader accessibility will still depend on regulatory approval, clinician adoption, product pricing, reimbursement and evidence demonstrating meaningful patient benefits.

Bioactivx will therefore need to show that the operational advantages of its synthetic platform translate into consistent clinical performance.

Manufacturing Expansion Supports Commercialization

A significant share of the new capital will support manufacturing expansion in Singapore.

Scaling production is an important milestone for medical-device companies because laboratory or pilot-scale manufacturing does not automatically translate into reliable commercial production.

Bioactivx must demonstrate that Bioactiv Matrix can be produced consistently while meeting quality, safety and regulatory requirements.

The company’s longer-term roadmap includes automated manufacturing in 2027 and an overseas manufacturing site and regional headquarters by 2028.

These plans suggest Bioactivx is preparing for growth beyond a single domestic launch.

Regulatory Filings Target Multiple Markets

Bioactivx has submitted a full data package for Bioactiv Matrix to Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority and is targeting a Singapore launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. Regional expansion is expected to follow in 2027.

The company also plans to pursue regulatory pathways in the United States and Europe, including an FDA filing and a future submission under European medical-device requirements.

Synthetic Wound Care Faces Regulatory Review

Medical devices marketed in Singapore generally must comply with Health Sciences Authority registration requirements based on their risk classification and applicable evaluation route. HSA requires documentation covering areas such as device design, validation, clinical evidence, risk analysis, labeling and manufacturing quality systems.

Regulatory clearance will therefore be a critical milestone before Bioactivx can convert its technology into meaningful commercial revenue.

Chronic Wounds Create a Larger Opportunity

Beyond acute wound care, Bioactivx is developing technologies targeting chronic wounds and diabetic ulcers.

These conditions can be difficult to manage because healing may be impaired by poor circulation, diabetes, infection, inflammation or other underlying health problems.

Successful expansion into chronic wound care could significantly increase the potential market for Bioactivx, but those indications may also require additional clinical evidence and product development.

The company plans to support post-market studies while advancing its broader pipeline.

Synthetic Wound Care Enters Growth Phase

Bioactivx’s $3 million round gives the company additional resources to move from early-stage development toward manufacturing, regulatory approval and commercialization.

Its fully synthetic approach aims to address several limitations associated with conventional wound-care materials while creating a platform that could eventually extend across acute and chronic wound indications.

The next major milestones will include Singapore regulatory clearance, commercial launch, international filings and evidence showing that Bioactiv Matrix can deliver consistent real-world clinical value.

If those milestones are achieved, Bioactivx could demonstrate how synthetic wound care technology can combine regenerative biomaterials with more scalable manufacturing and distribution to address a growing global need for advanced wound treatment.
