From North Carolina legislative leaders agreeing on a plan to a proposal included in Wisconsin’s budget, here are three recent updates on state Medicaid expansion efforts:
1. Leaders of the North Carolina House and Senate have agreed on a Medicaid expansion plan. The proposed plan would expand Medicaid to an estimated 600,000 people. Expansion would not take effect until the state’s budget is approved, which will likely happen in the summer.
2. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers included Medicaid expansion in his proposed state budget. If approved, the plan would expand coverage to an estimated 89,700 state residents, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
3. The South Dakota Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted down a bill that would have asked voters whether to add work requirements to the state’s recently expanded Medicaid program, according to a Feb. 24 report from South Dakota Public Radio.
