Margaret-Mary Wilson, M.D., has been named chief medical officer of UnitedHealth Group, a healthcare and insurance conglomerate that is focusing on health equity as part of its efforts to increase access, cut costs, and improve results for the patients it serves. Wilson was designated one of the National Diversity Council’s Top 100 most influential African Americans in business in 2021, as well as one of Diversity Journal’s Top 100 top women in 2021.
- New Leader: Wilson, who formerly held the positions of executive vice president and associate chief medical officer, will succeed Richard Migliori, M.D., who has been with the firm for 25 years and has served as CMO since 2013. Wilson’s new post will take effect on December 5.

The clinical voice has never been more important to our business and Dr. Wilson is the perfect person to help lead our organization towards developing a modern high performing health system.”
- Credentials: Wilson was an associate professor of internal and geriatric medicine at St. Louis University in Missouri before joining UnitedHealthcare in 2008. She was also the director of geriatric ambulatory services and the ortho-geriatric service.
- Experiences: Her experience also includes direct patient care, medical education, patient safety, quality improvement, risk management, and global healthcare systems management in a variety of healthcare settings in Africa, the U.K., South America, and the U.S.
