{"id":6131,"date":"2022-09-20T06:40:48","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T06:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/?p=6131"},"modified":"2022-09-21T05:39:07","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T05:39:07","slug":"medicaid-fraud-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/medicaid-fraud-allegations\/","title":{"rendered":"Centene to pay Texas $165M to settle Medicaid fraud allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Centene will pay Texas $165.6 million to&nbsp;settle&nbsp;the state&#8217;s investigation into if the payer violated Medicaid fraud laws, the Texas Attorney General&#8217;s Office said Sept. 19.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Centene made no admission of liability and maintains its business practices were legal, according to a&nbsp;news release&nbsp;from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton&#8217;s office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Protecting taxpayer funds and the financial integrity of the Texas Medicaid Program is a top priority for my office,&#8221; Mr. Paxton said in the release. &#8220;The results we achieved in this case send a clear message to providers that Texas expects transparency from its Medicaid partners as required by Texas law.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/39-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/39-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/39-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/39-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The settlement is the latest in a series of payments Centene has made to states over allegations the company overcharged state <a href=\"https:\/\/distilinfo.com\/healthplan\/cms-urges-states-to-tie-nursing-home-medicaid-payment-to-quality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Medicaid programs<\/a> for prescription drugs and services.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, the insurer&nbsp;paid&nbsp;Washington state $19 million to settle allegations it overcharged the state&#8217;s Medicaid provider. Centene has paid settlements to&nbsp;10 other states&nbsp;since 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a 2021 Securities and Exchange commission&nbsp;report, Centene created a $1.25 billion reserve for these settlements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives for Centene did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
