With the Medicare annual enrollment period quickly approaching, payers nationwide are greatly expanding Medicare Advantage plans and benefits. These are 13 recent payer moves to exit or enter new markets reported by Becker’s since Oct. 1:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bright Health <\/strong>said Oct. 11 it is exiting the individual and family markets in 15 states: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. The company will also only offer Medicare Advantage plans<\/a> in California and Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humana<\/strong> said Oct. 11 it is expanding its Medicare Advantage plans to four counties in the Baltimore area. The payer is also expanding MA plans to three counties in Rhode Island, expanding Medicare HMO plans to 260 new counties and introducing Medicare LPPO plans in 260 new counties. Dual special needs plans will also be expanded to 184 new counties in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Braven Health<\/strong>, a Medicare Advantage provider, said Oct. 10 it will expand to all New Jersey counties for 2023. The company is jointly owned by Horizon BCBS of New Jersey and Edison-based Hackensack Meridian Health and West Orange-based RWJBarnabas Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cigna<\/strong> CEO David Cordani said Oct. 5 the company sees “tremendous opportunities for growth around benefits” in the Middle East after it sold off some of its businesses in the Asia Pacific last year. The company said Oct. 3 it is expanding its MA footprint by 22 percent in 2023 to reach a total of 581 counties across 28 states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priority Health<\/strong> and Kroger Health said Oct. 4 they are launching two co-branded Medicare plans in eight Michigan counties for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L.A. Care<\/strong> said Oct. 4 it will offer a new Medicare Plus plan for dual-eligible beneficiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elevance Health<\/strong> told Becker’s Oct. 4 it is expanding its MA offerings to 2.1 million Medicare-eligible individuals in 145 new counties and adding PPO plans in 210 counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moda Health<\/strong>, a Portland, Ore.-based insurer with 400,000 members, is offering a suite of plans in Idaho for 2023, the company said Oct. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wellcare<\/strong>, Centene’s MA subsidiary, said Oct. 3 it is expanding plans to 209 new counties and will offer 48 newly designed plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Providence Health<\/strong> Plan said Oct. 3 it is offering its MA plans in Orange County, Calif., and three new counties in Washington state for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alignment Health<\/strong> said Oct. 3 it is expanding its PPO plans to six new counties and D-SNP in eight new counties to reach a total of 8.3 million Medicare-eligible individuals across six states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UnitedHealthcare<\/strong> said Oct. 1 it is expanding its MA offerings to reach 95 percent of the country’s eligible population in 2023, which includes an additional 2.3 million people across 314 counties for MA plans and 145,000 additional people for D-SNP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aetna<\/strong> said Oct. 1 it is expanding MA coverage to 141 new counties and 1 million more Medicare-eligible individuals to grow its total footprint to 46 states and Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSource: Beckers Payer<\/a><\/span>\n\n\n\n
