Epic has partnered with Invitae to integrate genetic testing information into its specialty diagnostics suite, Aura. This integration aims to make it easier for healthcare providers to access genetic testing information and support clinical decision-making for patients. The partnership follows similar integrations with Caris Life Sciences and Myriad Genetics, demonstrating Epic’s commitment to improving healthcare by making genetic and molecular testing more accessible to healthcare providers and patients. The integration of genetic testing information into Aura will help identify at-risk individuals, enhance early detection, and personalize treatments to achieve better outcomes and reduce the burden on the healthcare system.
Epic, a healthcare software company, has partnered with Invitae, a medical genetics company, to integrate genetic testing information into its specialty diagnostics suite, Aura. The integration aims to simplify provider access to genetic testing information, making it more accessible to patients and providers across the Epic community. The integration will help further precision medicine by allowing genetic test result information to be available in providers’ workflows for clinical decision support.
According to Robert Nussbaum, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Invitae, the use of Aura will enable patients and providers to access genetic testing seamlessly. This will help identify at-risk individuals, enhance early detection, and personalize treatments to achieve better outcomes and reduce the burden on the healthcare system.
This partnership is in addition to other Epic projects for molecular testing access. In July 2022, Caris Life Sciences, a molecular science company, announced a partnership with Epic to improve molecular testing access. The integration allows oncologists to order a range of molecular tests from Caris Life Sciences within Epic for more than 250 million patients. Caris’ suite of molecular profile services, including whole exome and whole transcriptome sequencing for tissue and blood samples, are available within Epic’s Orders and Results Anywhere (ORA) network for all Epic system users, representing 60% of oncologists.
Myriad Genetics, a precision medicine company, has also integrated its tests within Epic’s EHR to expedite the test ordering process. Providers can now place a single order for multiple Myriad tests and receive timely results through a unified online portal.
These partnerships and integrations demonstrate Epic’s commitment to improving healthcare by making genetic and molecular testing more accessible to healthcare providers and patients. The integration of genetic testing information into Aura will streamline the process for clinical decision-making, leading to better patient outcomes and a reduction in the burden on the healthcare system.
