In this week’s Fast Five Podcast, Chris and Anne discuss the mounting concerns over Amazon’s many “Zombie” Amazon Fresh stores that remain unopened throughout the country, Schnucks expanding its Flexforce pilot, American Eagle and JLL inking a warehousing partnership, DoorDash getting into package returns, and an exciting new startup out of Israel, Super Duper, that aims to be an automated microwarehouse and a grocer at the same time!

Fast Five
Brought to you by :

Hello Omni Talk Fans! 2023 is here and, boy, has the Sunday Christmas calendar effect thrown Anne and me for a loop.

After significant travel delays trying to get back to Minneapolis (Anne was diverted late Tuesday night to land and spent the night in St. Louis instead), we finally opened the Omni Talk headquarters back up on Wednesday afternoon, only to realize there were just seven business days left until NRF.

Oh the horror!

But, hey, working fast is what Anne and I do best, so rest assured we will be ready to bring you great content all NRF long.

Our plan is to livestream interviews from SES-imagotag’s booth on Sunday and Monday, so stop by and say hello and keep a lookout for some awesome interviews that we have lined up with some really great retail execs.

More on that next week – so until then, enjoy our first Fast Five of 2023.

In this week’s Fast Five Podcast, Anne and I discussed:

- The growing number of “zombie” Amazon Fresh stores lying dormant throughout the country.

- Schnucks expanding its flexforce employment initiative to more stores and why it is an important initiative on which to keep an eye.

- American Eagle taking its frenemy network approach directly to malls by way of a new warehouse leasing partnership with JLL.

- DoorDash making another smart move, while Instacart struggles with its own identity, as it gets into return reverse logistics.

- And closed with a spotlight on an interesting startup out of Israel, Super Duper, that asks the question, “If grocers are reticent to invest in microfulfillment tech, why not just become a microfulfillment-based grocer instead?”

There’s all that, plus Fukubukuro lucky bags, the Nike Fit class Anne would most like to watch on Netflix, and both the disturbing and also the quite possibly pleasurable features of Kroger’s new smart apron.

Be careful out there,

-- Chris, Anne, and the entire Omni Talk team

P.S. Interactive and unified – those are the two words we would use to describe the evolution of retail customer service in 2023 and beyond.

So we are pleased to announce that Talkdesk’s Antonio Gonzalez, Senior Manager of Industries Research & Insights, will join Anne and me for the first live Omni Talk Ask An Expert Series of 2023 to provide his expert opinion on how retailers and brands should approach this new interactive and unified world of retail customer service.

The interview will take place next Wednesday at 12 PM EST.
