Kaiser Permanente has announced a new grant program to support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in healthcare. The program called the Augmented Intelligence in Medicine and Healthcare Initiative (AIM-HI), will award grants of up to $750,000 to three to five health systems to support the development and implementation of AI and ML-based solutions that can improve patient care. The three research areas that AIM-HI is most interested in are Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention. Proposals are due June 30, 2023.
Kaiser Permanente, a large integrated healthcare delivery system in the United States, has announced a new grant program to support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in healthcare. The program called the Augmented Intelligence in Medicine and Healthcare Initiative (AIM-HI), will award grants of up to $750,000 to three to five health systems to support the development and implementation of AI and ML-based solutions that can improve patient care.
AIM-HI is focused on three areas of research:
- Diagnosis: AI and ML can be used to develop tools that can help clinicians make more accurate diagnoses. For example, AI-powered image analysis tools can be used to detect cancer and other diseases in medical images.
- Treatment: AI and ML can be used to develop personalized treatment plans for patients. For example, AI-powered algorithms can be used to predict which patients are most likely to benefit from a particular treatment.
- Prevention: AI and ML can be used to develop tools that can help patients prevent diseases. For example, AI-powered chatbots can be used to provide patients with personalized health advice.
Kaiser Permanente is seeking proposals from health systems that are interested in using AI and ML to improve patient care. Proposals will be assessed by a national advisory committee and expert reviewers from Kaiser Permanente. Selected project teams will work closely with the committee and reviewers over the 2-year grant period to leverage Kaiser Permanente’s experience in health AI.
“We are excited to launch this new grant program and support the development and implementation of AI and ML-based solutions that can improve patient care,” said Vincent Liu, MD, principal investigator of AIM-HI. “We believe that AI and ML have the potential to revolutionize healthcare and make it more personalized, efficient, and effective.”
The deadline for submitting proposals is June 30, 2023. For more information, please visit the AIM-HI website.
