YouTube Music has unveiled a new feature that enables users to create personalized playlist artwork using generative AI. Initially available to English language users in the United States, the tool offers themed prompts to generate unique cover art. The company also announced a feature on the Home tab for quick access to recent favorites, aligning with Spotify’s functionality. These updates follow recent introductions like “Samples,” timed lyrics, and comments for enhanced user engagement.
YouTube Music has unveiled a novel capability that empowers users to craft personalized playlist artwork through the utilization of generative AI. This announcement was made by the Google-owned company on Tuesday. This experimental feature is currently being rolled out to English language users in the United States and is slated for expansion to additional regions and languages in the future.
To initiate the process, users need to click on the existing default image of one of their playlists. Subsequently, they can peruse an array of themes such as travel, nature, landscape, fantasy, animals, and humor. Upon selecting a theme, users can then explore a variety of prompts. For instance, if the chosen theme is animals, one can opt for an image of a pug “in the style of a Medieval Gothic painting” or “in the style of a Pop Art painting.” Once the selections are made, users can click the “Create” button, leading to a series of AI-generated images for them to choose from. Once a preferred image is found, it can be saved as the playlist artwork.
In a blog post, the company expressed, “The guided experience allows users to effortlessly explore from a range of visual themes and options to create one-of-a-kind cover art that expresses the uniqueness of your personal playlists.” It further assures users that finding the perfect artwork for their morning commute playlist, be it 90’s R&B-inspired or otherwise, is made easy.
Additionally, YouTube Music has revealed its upcoming plan to introduce a new feature on the Home tab that facilitates swift access to recently played songs and favored artists. Upon opening the app, users will find their recent favorites prominently displayed at the top of the Home tab, aligning the user experience more closely with that of Spotify. This initiative forms part of YouTube Music’s ongoing efforts to revamp aspects of its app, enabling users to effortlessly discover and enjoy their preferred music.
These new features are introduced as YouTube Music continues to expand its offerings. The platform recently introduced “Samples,” a short-form personalized video feed reminiscent of TikTok, providing glimpses into artists, music videos, and song recommendations. It has also rolled out timed lyrics and comments for enhanced user engagement within the app.
