It appears Walmart Health’s primary care provider is laying the groundwork for its virtual care growth by filing business license applications in 37 states. According to a recent article by Insider, Walmart Health’s medical company, MC Medical LLC, registered to conduct business in 17 more states in June and July.
- Operations: The retail giant already operated medical clinics on its own property in Arkansas, Georgia, and Illinois and had ambitions to open more facilities in Florida. 17 more states were added in June and July, bringing the total to 37.
- Interest: “We’ve expressed our interest in offering telehealth via an acquisition that is pending regulatory clearance and these filings are related to that effort, not physical Walmart Health locations,” the spokesperson said.
- Comprehensive medical care: Aside from operating 20 medical clinics in Arkansas, Georgia, and Illinois, Walmart in the last few months has been working to position itself as a one-stop-shop for comprehensive medical care.
- Digital wallet: Walmart launched a free digital wallet that people can use to store and share their health information, such as COVID-19 vaccine records. On June 29, Walmart said it will offer a less expensive private-label version of analog insulin for diabetes patients who struggle to afford their medication.
- Telehealth: “As we think about telehealth it’s about recognizing – give people options, give people multiple pathways to engage care the way they want, and guess what they’ll do?” said Marcus Osborne, senior VP of Walmart Health. “They’ll get care.”
