Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia has joined forces with Aledade to elevate value-based primary care access for Medicaid members. This partnership extends value-based care principles to over 150,000 Virginians, emphasizing preventive care and chronic condition management. Aledade’s expertise supports independent practices, amplifying health services in underserved areas. The collaboration mirrors Aledade’s efforts with other insurers, aiming to revolutionize primary care across Virginia for improved patient outcomes and accessibility.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia recently forged a partnership with Aledade, a network aiding independent primary care practices. Their joint effort aims to bolster access to value-based primary care for Medicaid members in the state. This collaboration, extending from Anthem’s Medicare Advantage and commercially insured members, focuses on enhancing primary and preventive care, encompassing health screenings for over 150,000 Anthem members in Virginia.
Aledade, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, specializes in supporting independent practices, health centers, and clinics to engage in value-based care through data insights, policy expertise, and contractual aid. With a wide network spanning 46 states and the District of Columbia, Aledade works with over 1,500 practices and community health centers. Through this alliance, they seek to extend value-based care principles to more than 80 practices, 15 health centers, and 25 rural health clinics within Anthem’s network across Virginia.
Ananya Banerjee, Aledade’s chief commercial officer, emphasized the significance of primary care in addressing the underinvestment in the United States. Especially in Virginia’s rural areas designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) for primary care, value-based care models can sustain wellness and generate resources for expanding services.
Under this agreement, Aledade prioritizes facilitating preventive care, screenings, and chronic condition management for patients. Anthem has already witnessed positive outcomes, with rural health clinics broadening access and prioritizing preventive care, as highlighted by Monica Schmude, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia.
Aledade’s collaboration with Anthem aims not only to benefit Medicaid members but also to empower independent primary care practices across Virginia. Their overarching goal is to provide well-informed, accessible, engaged, and accountable primary care to a substantial population, regardless of their insurance coverage. This partnership aligns with Aledade’s initiatives this year, which include similar collaborations with insurers like CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and a significant 10-year agreement with Humana.
