Blue Cross Blue Shield is aiding Oklahomans in a special enrollment period after many lost health coverage due to changes in SoonerCare eligibility. The company aims to ease the process. Earlier, about 300,000 Oklahomans on SoonerCare were informed of coverage ending as a federal regulation concluded pandemic-related waivers. Blue Cross Blue Shield offers in-person assistance and online options for finding new plans during this period.
This year, a significant number of Oklahomans encountered a loss of health insurance coverage due to the return of SoonerCare eligibility to its pre-COVID criteria. However, for those impacted, there’s a reason to remain hopeful. An exclusive enrollment period has been initiated to assist Oklahomans in locating new healthcare plans.
To facilitate this special enrollment period and reduce stress, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma is committed to providing its support.
Reflecting on the past, earlier this year, a notification was issued to nearly 300,000 individuals in Oklahoma who were benefiting from SoonerCare, informing them that their coverage would cease.
This development stems from the fact that in December, a federal regulation was passed by Congress, concluding the public health emergency and thereby lifting the exemption of renewal requirements.
During the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the scope of Medicaid benefits was broadened through SoonerCare. Consequently, individuals whose income has since increased found themselves without this coverage.
For those who have been affected by this change, Tuesday is a favorable day to explore enrollment in a new plan. Blue Cross Blue Shield has made a team of insurance experts available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at their office located at Memorial and 41st.
The health insurance company is dedicated to assisting you in identifying a plan that aligns with both your individual and family needs.
In instances where visiting the Tulsa office on Tuesday is not feasible, alternative events are scheduled. These include an event in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, August 16, and another in Lawton on Thursday, August 24.
Should attending these events pose challenges, Blue Cross Blue Shield has highlighted alternatives. Plans can be accessed online, or assistance can be obtained by reaching out to their hotline at 888-346-9636.
