The $200 billion worth of Health Insurance firm UnitedHealth promoted senior executive Brian Thompson as the new Chief Executive Officer.
- This is the first major appointment and promotion since UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty came at the helm of the affairs. Thompson will replace Dirk McMohan, who led since June 2019. Thompson joined UnitedHealth in 2004 as the CEO of UnitedHealth’s government programs including Medicare and Retirement and Community and State business, attending the health and well-being needs of seniors and Medicaid receivers.
- Witty in his statement said, “ Brian’s experience, association, and values make him especially well-suited to help UnitedHealth improve how healthcare works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments, and our other partners, leading to continued and sustained long-term growth”.
- UnitedHealth insurance unit covers a large commercial health coverage operation as well as a governmental business that controls Medicaid coverage for states and sells privatized Medicare Advantage plans to seniors. UnitedHealth combines Optum and its assemblage of medical care providers and health services, is known for administering the nation’s largest health insurance company.
- As CEO of UnitedHealth insurance division, Thompson would handle global employers, singular, specialty and government benefit businesses while proceeding the company’s focus on ensuring access to high-quality affordable healthcare to all.
