Oscar Health, Inc., the first health insurance company built on a full-stack technology platform, has announced that it will begin offering Oscar Individual and Family health insurance plans across Miami-Dade County in 2022, in collaboration with the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System.
- Access: More South Florida residents will have access to a streamlined clinical and insurance experience as a result of these collaborations. The premier provider networks of the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System, as well as Oscar’s consumer-centric, tech-driven approach to customer service and care navigation, will give more people access to better health care.
- Approachable: “As we approach the Open Enrollment period, our goal of making high-quality health care more accessible and affordable for individuals is paramount,” said Dennis Hillen, Oscar Regional Vice President. “We’re proud to partner with both University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System under a shared vision to reach more consumers and support the unique needs of individuals across Miami-Dade.”
- Impact: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the state of Florida, as variants continue to spread infection and instability. Due to job loss, nearly 25% of Florida people may not have health insurance coverage due to increased unemployment rates and an uncertain job market.
- Coverage area: Residents of Miami-Dade who live in Oscar’s coverage area will be able to purchase Oscar Individual and Family health plans, which include affordable coverage of the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System’s network of high-quality providers and services, during the upcoming Open Enrollment period.
- Challenges: Oscar, based in New York City, has been challenging the status quo in the healthcare system since its inception in 2012. As of June 30, 2021, the company’s member-first attitude and creative approach to care have earned the trust of about 560,000 members. They supply Individual & Family, Small Group, and Medicare Advantage plans, as well as +Oscar, their complete stack technology platform, to other providers and payers in the industry.
