While the pandemic is slowly slackening its grip in US, June has witnessed some transitions in several health insurance firms. Here are seven health insurance executives who made the news in the month of June.
- Altarum: Michael Monson, formerly of Centene, became CEO of healthcare consulting organization Altarum. Through continued partnerships with federal and state governments, Michael will oversee the next stage of Altarum’s growth expanding the scale and impact of its solutions to advance health equity; public health technology; and Medicaid, Medicare, and Exchange programs.
- UnitedHealth Group: Former Eli Lilly executive Joy Fitzgerald was tapped by UnitedHealth Group to lead the payer’s diversity and inclusion efforts. Ms. Fitzgerald succeeded Karen Sachs, who recently retired. In a statement, UnitedHealth Group said that Fitzgerald was named to the inaugural list of “Elite 100 Black Women Executives” byDiversity Woman Magazine.
- Humana: While Carolyn Tandy, formerly of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain became Humana’s senior vice president and chief inclusion and diversity officer, the health insurer announced on June 28 that its interim CFO, Susan Diamond, would remain in the position permanently.
- BelongHealth: Former Cigna executive Patrick Foley launched Medicare Advantage company Belong Health. It looks to dramatically expand the availability and improve the delivery of healthcare benefits to Medicare-eligible beneficiaries across the country, with a specific focus on special needs populations.
- Others: Karen Amstutz, MD, became CMO of AmeriHealth Caritas, and Priority Health CMO Marti Lolli was appointed CEO of Intermountain Healthcare plan SelectHealth. Dr. Amstutz will oversee care management; utilization management; and medical, dental, pharmacy, and behavioral health clinical policy and Marti will start in her new role in July, taking over for Bob White, vice president and COO of SelectHealth.
