In the second quarter of the fiscal year 2021, Anthem, Centene, Humana, and UnitedHealth Group all reported increasing profits, but Molina Healthcare saw profits fall. Here’s how they performed over the second quarter’s three months.
- Anthem: Anthem reported total revenues of $33.3 billion, up 14.1% from the same period the previous year. Anthem made a $1.8 billion profit in the second quarter, down 21.2 percent from the $2.3 billion it generated in the same period of 2020.
- Centene: Centene saw a $535 million net loss in the second quarter. The payer had total revenues of $31 billion for the quarter, a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
- Humana: Humana saw its total revenues climb to $20.6 billion, an 8.2 percent increase from its 2020 second-quarter numbers. Humana’s profit decreased from $1.83 billion in 2020 to $588 million in 2021.
- Molina: Molina Healthcare’s second-quarter net profits were $185 million, down 33% from its second-quarter earnings of $276 million in 2020. Premium revenues totaled $6.6 billion, up 51% from the previous year.
- Unitedhealth: UnitedHealth Group’s revenue increased 15 percent year over year to $71.3 billion. The company ended the quarter with a $4.3 billion profit, a 36 percent decrease from $6.6 billion a year prior.
