HCA Healthcare, based in Nashville, Tennessee, has sold five Georgia hospitals since August. The sale of Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga., to AdventHealth, was completed on Oct. 1. The 230-bed hospital and its accompanying companies were purchased for $637 million by the Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based system.
- Deal: HCA Healthcare, based in Nashville, Tennessee, has sold five Georgia hospitals since August. The sale of Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga., to AdventHealth, was completed on Oct. 1. The Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based system paid $637 million for the 230-bed hospital and its connected businesses.
- Footprint: HCA claimed it no longer has a presence in northwest Georgia because of the spinoff of Redmond Regional. Even though HCA’s footprint in Georgia has shrunk following the sale of five hospitals for a total of $1.58 billion, the corporation still manages five hospitals in the state.
- Operator: HCA is the nation’s largest for-profit hospital operator. In the second quarter of this year, the corporation generated $14.4 billion in revenue, up from $11.1 billion a year ago. The system earned $1.5 billion in net income in the second quarter of 2021, up from $1.1 billion in the same quarter of 2020.
- Purchase: HCA Healthcare has completed its $400 million offer to buy a majority stake in Brookdale Senior Living’s home health and hospice division. The hospital chain’s expansion into home health adds 80 new locations to its collection, two-thirds of which were in HCA’s core regions. Brookdale kept a 20% ownership share in the division.
- Operations: HCA Healthcare was created in 1968 as a for-profit healthcare provider in the United States. It is situated in Nashville, Tennessee, and as of May 2020, it owned and operated 186 hospitals and roughly 2,000 care sites in 21 states and the United Kingdom, including surgery centers, freestanding emergency rooms, urgent care centers, and physician clinics.
