Oracle’s monumental acquisition of the electronic health record giant Cerner for $28.3 billion, the biggest healthcare IT buyout, has set the ball rolling for EHR enhancement to improve the experience of nurses and physicians.
- Digital tools: Oracle co-founder, Chairman, and CTO Larry Ellison, said: “The health IT transaction will provide our overworked medical professionals with a new generation of easier-to-use digital tools that enable access to information via a hands-free voice interface to secure cloud applications.”
- Zero unplanned downtime: Oracle co-founder’s optimism extends to the Oracle’s pledge of “zero unplanned downtime in the medical environment” for Cerner users.
- Gen2 Cloud: The database giant wants to use its tools to modernize Cerner’s systems and move them to its Gen2 Cloud with the help of its Voice Digital Assistant user interface, and low-code development tools.
- High-quality care: Cerner CEO Dr. David Feinberg, said: “It’s an unprecedented opportunity to accelerate our work modernizing electronic health records, improving the caregiver experience, and enabling more connected, high-quality, and efficient patient care.”
- Easier to learn: Mike Sicilia, executive VP of vertical industries at Oracle, said: “Oracle’s Autonomous Database, low-code development tools, and Voice Digital Assistant user interface [enable] us to rapidly modernize Cerner’s systems and move them to our Gen2 Cloud. This can be done very quickly, because Cerner’s largest business and most important clinical system already runs on the Oracle Database. What will change is the user interface. We will make Cerner’s systems easier to learn and use by making Oracle’s hands-free Voice Digital Assistant the primary interface to Cerner’s clinical systems.”
