Nanyang Technological University Singapore has revealed plans to enhance the curriculum of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine with a focus on AI and digital health courses. Starting next year, digital health will be seamlessly integrated into the five-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program. The enriched curriculum will encompass topics such as medical data science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
The institution aims to provide students with a solid understanding of the ethical and legal implications of AI and healthcare informatics while also exposing them to hands-on experience with AI and medical technologies like telehealth, health apps, wearables, and personalized molecular medicine. Additionally, they will introduce more tech-enabled learning tools such as virtual reality for cardiorespiratory system education and e-simulators for drug prescription and electronic medical records (EMR) use. These tools are designed to mold students into discerning and confident technology users.
Furthermore, the program will include an expanded focus on medical humanities to equip students with essential skills for critically engaging with technology, managing clinical uncertainty, and adapting to evolving healthcare practices.
Philips APAC Welcomes New Managing Director
Royal Philips has appointed Peter Quinlan as the managing director of Philips Asia-Pacific. Quinlan, a long-serving official within the company, previously led various businesses in APAC, including MR, CT, and diagnostic X-ray imaging. With a career spanning over a decade at Philips and experience in leadership roles across multiple regions, Quinlan takes over from Caroline Clarke, who dedicated 15 years to the company.
Edwin Paalvast, Chief of International and Executive Committee Member at Royal Philips, expressed confidence in Quinlan’s expertise in the health technology field, citing his passion for advancing healthcare delivery. Yashoda Collaborates with Fujifilm for Advanced Endoscopy Training
Yashoda Group of Hospitals has joined forces with Fujifilm India to establish a training and research facility specializing in basic and advanced GI endoscopy. The facility aims to keep gastroenterologists updated with the latest technologies in endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, third-space endoscopy, and diagnostic endoscopy. Dheeraj Chaudhri, Head of Fujifilm India’s Endoscopy Division, highlighted the facility’s role in offering training and observer programs to doctors across the Asia-Pacific region.
Apollo Telehealth Expands Services at NTPC
Apollo Telehealth has commenced the provision of emergency and ICU services through telemedicine at nine power-generating plants operated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). These services aim to enhance medical care accessibility and safety for NTPC employees, extending to their families. Both TeleEmergency and TeleICU services are part of this initiative.
