Here are eight stories about the Louisville, Ky.-based payer Becker’s has covered since Aug. 12.
1. Humana is expanding its Medicare Advantage plans to Rhode Island, offering plans for 2023 in Bristol, Kent and Newport counties.
2. An audit from the HHS Office of the Inspector General found HumanaChoice Medicare Advantage plan received $34.4 million in overpayments from CMS.
3. The Humana Fund, the insurer’s philanthropic arm, donated $1 million to Hurricane Ian disaster relief, with funds distributed to the Florida Disaster Fund and local organizations in counties hardest-hit by the storm.
4. In the wake of severe flooding and tornadoes that damaged communities in rural Kentucky in July, Humana Foundation CEO Tiffany Benjamin said in a Sept. 16 op-ed for the Louisville Courier-Journal that future investments in rural areas can help bolster health equity before natural disasters strike again.
5. Executives told investors Sept. 15 Humana is looking to match or exceed other payers that have outpaced it in Medicare Advantage growth over the last year, WDRB reported. Though the payer is second only to UnitedHealthcare in terms of total MA enrollment, it had one of the lower MA growth rates in 2022.

7. Humana is planning to purchase Inclusa, a Stevens Point, Wis.-based managed care organization, for an undisclosed amount, Becker’s reported Aug. 12.
8. Humana completed the sale of a 60 percent stake in its subsidiary Kindred at Home’s hospice and personal care business to the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Becker’s reported Aug. 12. The $2.8 billion deal was first announced in August.
