
Optum and SSM Health, a healthcare conglomerate, are collaborating to improve healthcare accessibility and affordability. The collaboration will cover a variety of topics, including inpatient care, revenue cycle management, and digital transformation.

- Funds: According to the release, SSM and Optum’s parent firm UnitedHealth Group will collaborate on community health programs with the goal of increasing health equity. The funds will be used to address health disparities and other issues in SSM’s major Midwest communities.
- Holistic approach: “We are thrilled to partner with SSM Health to advance a next-generation holistic approach to health that empowers all people to lead their healthiest lives,” said Dan Schumacher, chief strategy and growth officer of UnitedHealth Group, in a statement. “This new relationship further builds on Optum’s support of local care systems across the country to enhance affordable, patient-centric care that is easy to access, sustainable and high-quality.”
- Collaboration: The collaboration will use data analytics and clinical technology tools to design an inpatient delivery paradigm that saves money while also increasing quality and patient outcomes. According to Optum, tech tools will provide important information at the point of care, reducing variation.
- Streamline: It also aims to streamline the patient experience with digital health tools, increasing patient loyalty and reducing unneeded costs.“Creating a new ecosystem of care requires bringing together the best and the brightest to collaborate for the common good,” said Laura Kaiser, president, and CEO of SSM Health, in a statement.
- Partnership: Certain SSM personnel in revenue cycle management and hospital care management will transfer to Optum as a result of the partnership, though they will continue to support the health system in their existing locations, according to Optum.
