Selected companies and members of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina will be able to use Teladoc’s virtual care services. Teladoc Health’s virtual platform will be available to members in most Blue Cross NC individual and fully insured group plans for acute care and behavioral healthcare requirements, according to the business.
- Accessibility: Beginning in 2022, self-funding businesses will have access to Teladoc’s full suite of care management solutions, including the diabetes platform Livongo and the myStrength behavioral health platform, according to Blue Cross NC. These tools are designed to help people better manage chronic illnesses and avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency room and hospitalizations.
- Quality care: “For more than two decades, Blue Cross NC has provided convenient access to quality virtual care solutions,” said Roberta Capp, M.D., chief medical officer at Blue Cross NC, in a statement.
- Extension: During the pandemic, telehealth use increased by 7,500 percent among Blue Cross NC members, and offering Teladoc’s services allows for more ease of access for those who have adopted the technology. The insurer’s telehealth coverage policy was recently extended until March 31, 2022, and will cover doctor appointments conducted electronically or over the phone in the same way that in-person visits are covered.
- Solutions: “Through our collaboration with Teladoc Health, we can continue to offer more equitable access to chronic disease digital solutions regardless of physical location and work to make health care better for all North Carolinians,” Capp said.
- Partnership: “The expanded reach of Teladoc Health’s partnership with Blue Cross NC fundamentally transforms care for members by delivering whole-person care,” said Kelly Bliss, Teladoc Health President, U.S. Group Health, in a statement. “This is a great example of how innovative organizations can provide greater access to proven solutions that address acute care while also supporting ongoing health needs.”
