Over 60% of students meet the criteria for one or more mental health problems, a 50% increase from 2013, according to a recent survey.
Uwill, a mental health platform for colleges and students, has secured $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Education Growth Partners. The platform partners with colleges to provide students with on-demand virtual access to licensed therapists and providers trained in crisis counseling, as well as online wellness events through its mental health and wellness app. The funds from Series A will be used to scale the company’s growth and platform.
According to a recent survey, over 60% of students in 2020 and 2021 met the criteria for one or more mental health problems, which marks a nearly 50% increase from 2013. This data highlights the growing demand for mental health services on college campuses, and Uwill’s solution aims to provide support and resources to students when they need it the most.
Uwill’s collaborative approach with college leaders and existing mental health support allows the platform to fill unmet needs on campus. The solution offers high value to colleges and, most importantly, to students at a time when mental health is of paramount importance. The managing general partner at EGP, Andy Kaplan, said in a statement, “The astounding impact and growth that Uwill has achieved in a short period cannot be overstated.”
In 2020, Uwill received a $3.25 million investment led by rapper Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC, and a year later, it completed its angel funding round of $5.2 million. The company has since built relationships with more than 150 colleges.
Mantra Health is another company that provides higher education institutions and students with mental health services. It announced a $5 million raise in March, highlighting the growing competition in the mental health space for college students.
Uwill’s ability to address the increasing demand for mental health services on college campuses through its collaborative approach with college leaders and existing mental health support makes it a unique player in the space. The platform’s on-demand virtual access to licensed therapists and providers trained in crisis counseling, as well as online wellness events, provide a comprehensive solution to support students’ mental health and well-being.
The COVID-19 pandemic has further emphasized the importance of mental health services for students, and Uwill’s solution offers a timely and much-needed resource for colleges and their students. The company’s ability to secure a significant amount of funding in its Series A round is a testament to the growing demand for mental health services in higher education and the potential for technology-based solutions to meet this need.
