This initiative is designed for both individual developers and enterprise teams, enabling them to gain practical experience in various healthcare-related tasks, such as automating prior authorization forms and harnessing AI/ML-driven insights from healthcare data.
The development of this training program was a collaborative effort between Amazon Web Services, its customers, and partners across Latin America, Canada, and the Caribbean. The objective was to create AWS Industry Quest: Healthcare, a comprehensive training platform that empowers participants to construct cloud solutions that enhance healthcare practices and fulfill the demand for skilled cloud professionals within the health IT industry.
This immersive cloud training program aligns with AWS’s commitment, outlined in 2020, to provide free cloud computing skills training to 29 million individuals globally. The program is centered around a simulated hospital environment within the AWS Console, allowing solution architects, engineers, business analysts, and decision-makers proficient in AWS to engage with various AWS services in practical scenarios.
The gamified training curriculum encompasses 30 assignments, including tasks such as monitoring and addressing HIPAA compliance issues, extracting insights from healthcare data using AI and ML, achieving seamless healthcare interoperability, simplifying and automating prior authorization procedures, and more. The program’s success metrics are measured through factors like patient satisfaction, medical equipment utilization, and average patient wait times.
Participants in the training program can unlock virtual rewards like advanced hospital equipment and furnishings as they progress, including items like magnetic resonance imaging machines, X-ray devices, and waiting area seating.
AlayaCare, a Canadian-based cloud platform for home health and infusion services, collaborated with AWS on Industry Quest training for healthcare. Beta testing involved AlayaCare and Hospital Sirio Libanes in Brazil, which contributed valuable insights that shaped the program’s interactive design.
AWS’s strategic focus on leveraging cloud technology to alleviate clinician burnout in a post-pandemic landscape is also noteworthy. The company previously introduced the AWS Healthcare Accelerator, which supports startups in creating cloud-based solutions to address the global shortage of healthcare workers. These startups have tackled challenges by streamlining clinical workflows, enhancing remote patient engagement, and developing training programs.
