Zoom is introducing enhanced AI features specifically tailored for healthcare organizations. These new artificial intelligence tools aim to facilitate collaboration among team members across different time zones, enhancing productivity and meeting efficiency. Zoom made this announcement during its virtual event, Zoomtopia 2023, where it unveiled expanded Zoom AI Companion functionalities for healthcare and education customers.
This update allows users to conveniently manage their AI Companion settings for meetings, team chat, whiteboard, and mail, all from a unified interface within the Zoom web portal. Zoom plans to integrate AI Companion features comprehensively across its entire platform, encompassing meetings, team chat, phone, email, and whiteboard tools, with additional enhancements on the roadmap.
One significant application of AI Companion for healthcare clients is its integration with Zoom Whiteboard, where it can help generate and organize ideas using AI summarization. Soon, users will benefit from AI Companion’s assistance in generating and categorizing ideas and, by spring 2024, using whiteboard content to create images and populate templates.
In Zoom Meetings, AI Companion now offers auto-generated highlights, “smart chapters,” summaries, and next steps for a more seamless meeting experience. Latecomers to meetings can leverage the in-meeting AI Companion panel to ask real-time questions about what they missed, receiving AI-generated answers.
Zoom Chat, Zoom Mail, Zoom Notes, and Zoom Phone have also incorporated AI enhancements, including conversation summaries, suggested replies, and integrated meeting summaries.
Zoom utilizes a federated approach to AI, combining its proprietary large language models with third-party models such as Meta Llama 2, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others.
The company is also developing pre-meeting preparation features that will use AI Companion to surface insights from meetings, chats, whiteboards, emails, Zoom documents, and third-party applications (with user consent). Users may soon receive real-time feedback on their presence in meetings and coaching on conversational and presentation skills.
Zoom is committed to AI transparency, assuring users that their communications and content will not be used to train Zoom’s AI models or third-party AI models. This stance was emphasized by Mahesh Ram, Head of AI Applications at Zoom.
In response to concerns about changes in its terms of service, Zoom clarified that it does not use customer audio, video, chat, or other content to train its models. Additionally, the company announced that integrated Companion AI is turned off by default.
Zoom has gained popularity in the healthcare sector for virtual care and digital services, offering flexibility and support for various use cases. Healthcare professionals have praised Zoom’s ability to tailor settings and provide troubleshooting resources.
Zoom’s AI Companion aims to empower knowledge workers with the capabilities of large language models, making everyday tasks more efficient and boosting productivity.
