Singapore’s government has recently intensified scrutiny of telehealth providers, investigating eight companies for improper practices and false advertising. One provider has already had its license revoked, following more than 50 complaints lodged with the Ministry of Health last year. ORA’s timing is particularly relevant considering Singapore’s growing obesity rates, with approximately 30% of Singaporeans categorized as overweight and 12% as obese. This public health issue carries significant health, social, and economic implications that require comprehensive intervention.
“We are seeing a shift in how consumers view their own weight management journey, now more aware that a holistic approach is needed to sustain and achieve their weight management goals,” Dr. Ng observed.

Dr. Ng clarified that while weight loss medications play an important role, they must be used responsibly: “Part of the weight loss journey can involve prescription weight-loss medicines, which have a critical role to play in tackling the challenge of obesity and getting people back to sustainable good health. But they are serious medicines that must only be used responsibly by eligible patients under medical supervision.”
