Automation Dramatically Reduces Staff Turnover in Aged Care
Southern Cross Care Queensland has successfully transformed its workforce management through digital innovation, addressing critical challenges in the aged care sector. The not-for-profit provider recently deployed Humanforce’s comprehensive solution suite, integrating time and attendance tracking, advanced rostering and scheduling capabilities, financial wellbeing tools, and a dedicated employee application.
The results speak volumes about the effectiveness of this digital transformation. Staff turnover rates have plummeted from a concerning 40% over the previous four-year period to an impressive 17% following implementation.
With four decades of experience in the industry, Southern Cross Care Queensland oversees 13 residential care facilities and five retirement villages, employing more than 1,300 staff members. The organization initiated this technological upgrade when their previous rostering system reached end-of-life, coinciding with the need to navigate wide-ranging reforms across the aged care sector.
Free Virtual Healthcare Expands to Sydney Residents
The New South Wales government has significantly enhanced healthcare accessibility by extending its free telehealth services to Sydney residents. This virtual care initiative, available through the HealthDirect platform, addresses urgent but non-life-threatening medical conditions without requiring emergency department visits.
The service caters to a variety of common health concerns, including:
- Respiratory symptoms, coughs, colds, and flu
- Gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea
- Minor skin conditions and rashes
Health officials project this virtual care expansion will prevent approximately 85,000 unnecessary emergency department visits annually, substantially reducing wait times and improving resource allocation across Sydney’s healthcare system.
This expansion builds upon the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate emergency department pressures through digital solutions. Over the past two years, NSW has progressively implemented free urgent virtual care services for both pediatric and adult patients, while also launching specialized telestroke and rural telehealth initiatives.
Virtual Hand Therapy Pilot Launches in Rural Western Australia
The WA Country Health Service has initiated an innovative telehealth program focused on specialized hand therapy services for rural patients. This pilot program will operate in two distinct phases spanning 12 months, facilitating virtual co-consultation sessions that connect patients and local physicians with specialist hand therapists.
According to official statements, patient appointments for the Telehands Clinic will be scheduled following comprehensive evaluation of electronic referrals, ensuring appropriate case prioritization and specialist matching.
This initiative represents another significant step toward bridging the healthcare accessibility gap between metropolitan and rural communities in Western Australia through targeted digital health innovation.
