Virginia-based healthcare provider, CVFP Medical Group, has expanded its partnership with Navina, a medical AI company. The partnership will use Navina’s AI to extract and integrate patient data from multiple sources to provide clinicians with a more comprehensive understanding of a patient’s health status. The AI tool has been used since 2022, helping to improve care quality, reduce administrative burden, and improve patient outcomes. The partnership highlights a growing trend in healthcare, with more providers adopting AI and analytics-based tools to enhance patient care.
CVFP Medical Group, a healthcare provider based in Virginia, has announced the expansion of its partnership with Navina, a medical AI company. This partnership aims to improve clinical outcomes, provider experience, and value-based care performance through AI-driven patient data extraction. Navina’s artificial intelligence is designed to extract and integrate patient data from various sources, including structured and unstructured notes, labs, and imaging data, into a “Patient Portrait.” This comprehensive view of a patient’s health status helps clinicians understand their patient’s health better.
CVFP began using Navina’s AI tool in 2022 and found that the AI helped improve care quality and reduce clinicians’ administrative burden. During the tool’s deployment, the medical group used it to prepare for 80% of patient visits, and the AI pulled more than 50% of the new data from external sources to improve coverage of patient health histories. The extracted data, sourced from lab results and specialty consultations, helped flag previously undocumented health conditions, such as obesity, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes, once integrated into clinical workflows.
Dr. Jarrett Dodd, medical director of CVFP Medical Group, said in a press release, “When we implemented Navina into our daily routine, it became clear that this AI was going to transform our processes and improve the patient experience.” Navina has provided us with the ability to extract data more efficiently, ensuring higher quality care and a simplified work experience for clinicians, giving our team more time to focus on the patient.
Shawn Crawford, CEO of CVFP, added, “Navina is actively improving our systems’ functions while also decreasing the burden on our physicians when it comes to patient data.” We are excited to make cutting-edge AI available to our clinicians. “Navina has helped pursue our value-based strategy with point-of-care evidence and, at the same time, increased satisfaction for physicians.”
The partnership between CVFP and Navina highlights the growing trend of healthcare providers turning to AI and analytics-based tools to assist primary care providers and take a more proactive approach to care. As the link between primary care and improved population health outcomes becomes more evident, health systems are increasingly relying on these technologies to enhance patient care.
In an interview with Health IT Analytics, Ed Helvig, patient access manager at Central Ohio Primary Care (COPC), discussed how the organization is using data analytics to streamline referrals and improve the primary care experience. With more providers embracing AI and analytics, the healthcare industry is poised to transform the way it delivers care to patients.
