While not the only factor, digital transformation is crucial to the success or failure of any corporate transformation endeavor. Here are a few recent health IT vendor contracts and go-lives that are helping healthcare firms accelerate their digital transformation efforts.
- Amazon: Amazon is releasing a new Alexa skill that will allow hospital professionals to call and “drop in” on patients without having to physically enter their rooms. Select hospitals will use the new Alexa functionality, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, BayCare in Tampa, Fla., and Houston Methodist.
- Startups: SciTech Scity, a New Jersey science and technology innovation campus, is partnering with Sheba Medical Center, Israel’s largest hospital, to open a simulation center in Jersey City focused on the future of digital health and hospitals. Northwell Health, situated in New Hyde Park, New York, and Aegis Ventures, a startup studio, have launched a joint venture to launch artificial intelligence firms that address healthcare equity, costs, and quality.
- US Davis: UC Davis Health in California is teaming up with the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity to name and grow a number of health-related exhibitions that highlight medical technology. The Massachusetts artificial intelligence and technology center for connected care in ageing and Alzheimer’s disease is being developed by UMass Amherst, Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.
- Cleveland: Cleveland, Ohio-based University Hospitals — which has 150 hospitals, outpatient centers, and primary care facilities — is deploying artificial intelligence company Interactions’ AI-powered virtual assistant to schedule appointments.
- AI systems: The University of Chicago’s Algorithmic Bias Initiative, which was formed in November 2019, has brought together specialists in healthcare and technology to address biases in medical artificial intelligence systems, according to a post on the university’s website on Nov. 3.
