Vocera, a medical communication firm, has teamed up with Amazon to create a new Alexa skill-focused at connecting patients’ hospital experiences. The new talent will be geared toward keeping patients and caregivers in touch with their medical team. Patients will also be able to ask questions regarding their hospital stay using the combined technology.
- Demands: Patients will be able to simply speak demands for a care team member into an Amazon Echo in their room. Care team members, on the other hand, will get the request for care via their Vocera Badge, Smartbade, or Vina app.
- Comprehend: The new talent will be able to comprehend phrases and keywords using Vocera Engage software in order to call the right caregiver for the patient’s request. Over an Alexa device, caregivers will be able to react orally to the patient’s request.
- Shortages: In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States is experiencing a nursing shortage. 500,000 registered nurses are anticipated to retire by 2022, according to the American Nurse Association. The healthcare system is under increased strain as a result of this scarcity. A host of new technologies are aiming to make healthcare workers’ jobs easier.
- Accessible: “We believe the intuitive and accessible nature of voice and Alexa has the potential to help and delight customers in many scenarios, in and outside of the home,” said Liron Torres, head of Alexa smart properties at Amazon.“We’re excited to work with Vocera and extend the voice experiences customers already love to healthcare systems and give care providers new ways to save time and personalize care for their patients.”
- Announcements: Amazon announced at the end of October that its Alexa voice assistant would be available in senior living homes and healthcare institutions. Alexa Together, a subscription service from Amazon, allows family members and caregivers to remotely monitor aging families in their homes.
